#213: Torchlights

"Blackout! Quick, get me the torchlight!"

"The what?"

"The torchlight! It's in the telephone drawer. Next to the collection of pens from assorted pharmaceutical companies and the cello-tape!"

"Oh, you mean the flash light."

"That's what I said. Torchlight. Bring quick!"

My relatives call it a "battery!"

I've only heard it referred to as a "torch"...never heard "torchlight"...as in, "Arre, fuse went. Give me torch, I'll go fix it."

Mohotma, did you notice desis dressed in warm clothing when its 90 degrees outside? A great spot to catch them acheiving this marvellous sweat inducing feat is Flushing, NY.

Us Gujjus call it "battery".... And we still have D size batteries that we bought back in the 80s... in a drawer full of old AV cables, saved up bubble wrap, etc.

You should have a post about working in Iraq. The guys I work with call it a torch light all of the time.

Aww, that was an old one. I saw this exact same one on Season 3/4 of ER once, when they used to find Corday's extremely elaborate Brit mannerisms funny.

Attn: confused desis: Electric torch or torch is the actual name in English. The American term of flashlight is used by less than a third of English speakers.
